Parshat Ki Tavo
22 September 2024
In this week's Parsha, it discusses the blessings that come to a person who keeps the Torah and mitzvot. Following that, the Torah describes all the curses that, God forbid, will befall a person who does not keep the Torah and mitzvot.
When reading through the Parsha, it seems like the curses far outnumber the blessings that come if you follow Hashem. The Kli Yakar explains that the reason for this is because the main reward (s'char) for mitzvot is in the Olam Haba (the World to Come), which is a pleasure beyond our comprehension. However, Hashem, in His mercy, brings punishment for sins in this world (Olam Hazeh). Therefore, the main blessings are not written in the Torah, while the main curses are, because we can understand the curses.
Additionally, I had another thought: the very fact that a person lives their life according to the Torah is the greatest achievement one could attain.
May we all be zocheh to enjoy a true Yiddishe life.
